Welcome
The Chickenologists are a small band of students who began their work in the fall of 2010 when the MRH School District adopted its first flock of chickens. The group was established to provide the necessary research in chicken care to ensure the flock was well managed. The students range from seventh through twelfth grade. The Chickenologists have presented nationally, lobbied legislators, and have done a tremendous amount of research, writing, and art work to complete a book, Chickenology: The Art & Science of Keeping Chickens.
They have been assisted in their work by several adults: Linda Henke, superintendent of MRH Schools, who organized and directed the group; Kat Norton, administrative assistant to the superintendent, who helped students with research and writing and particularly with art work and layout; Almut Marino, the Early Childhood Center Seed to Table Director; Anne Grahm, who supervises the chicken care at ECC; Darrel Sauer, the grounds keeper at ECC; and Laura Tetley, who is in charge of the chickens at the Elementary School.
Each year, the Chickenologists present classes for community members interested in urban chicken keeping. The goal for 2012-13 is to support 50 families in the Maplewood Richmond Heights community for keeping urban chickens.
